Maru-La Palma strengthens its sustainability path at the Sustainable Fashion Day in Gran Canaria
On October 17, 2024, the Museo del Plátano – Finca La Rekompensa in Las Palmas hosted the event “A Journey Towards Conscious Fashion”, a key platform for the promotion of sustainable fashion in the Canary Islands. Organized by PROEXCA in collaboration with the island councils (Gran Canaria Moda Cálida, Tenerife Moda, Isla Bonita Moda, and Lanzarote Moda), the day brought together over 20 local brands, experts and institutions from the textile industry.
Maru-La Palma participated in the event and established contact with the certification initiative r-evolución, developed by Agile Seller, which evaluates social and environmental impact in order to award official sustainable fashion labels across Europe. This marks a significant step for Maru-La Palma on its journey toward full sustainability certification.
Key topics during the event included traceability, material innovation, and the new European legislation on sustainable production. A highlight was the roundtable “Heading Towards Sustainability”, moderated by Pepa González (Agile Seller), followed by a fashion show featuring brands committed to slow fashion and local, zero-waste production models.
For Maru-La Palma, this event was not only an inspiring space for learning and connection but also a concrete opportunity to move forward towards being officially recognized as a sustainable fashion label made in the Canary Islands.
